During my internship with the City of Grapevine Parks and Recreation Department I had the opportunity to manage Zombie Survival Camp and help plan events that will be implemented throughout the year. The internship provided great learning opportunities in a fun atmosphere! 

Job Description 

The Community Events Intern will assist in planning and developing community wide events. Events include Zombie Survival Camp, The Grapeyard, Carol of Lights, and more. The internship provides an opportunity to learn in a creative events environment. The intern will also be assisting with marketing and promotions of events under the supervision of the Event Production Supervisor. 

Benefits and Opportunities 

Grapevine offers a variety of opportunities for interns and employees to take part in. The internship is a paid position, however, room and board is not included. The Parks and Recreation Department allows employees to have access to The REC for free, a nice added benefit for interns to use during their internship semester! 

Requirements and Qualifications 

The intern should be pursuing a Bachelors or Masters degree in Recreation, Park, Tourism, Hospitality, Event Management or a related field. Must know how to use Microsoft Excel and Word. Knowledge of Adobe software is preferred. In addition, interns must be able to perform job duties that may include heavy lifting for set up and tear down of events.

Achievements 

During my internship, Zombie Camp was my biggest achievement. I learned a lot about different events and programs. I was able to apply my skills and knowledge from classes and use it to help make the camp a success. The rest of the Community Events team helped provide the necessary tools and support as well as feedback to make camp a success as well. In addition to camp, I had the chance to be creative when discussing and planning future events for the department.
